Who can apply

Both charitable and non-charitable organisations can apply for funding however the funding would need to be used for charitable purposes. Priority is given to requests that are supported by NFU Mutual staff members or one of our local Agency offices, and to first time applicants.

We are currently inviting our agency businesses to nominate local charities to receive a donation from our £1.92m fund this year. More than 100 agencies have now nominated their chosen causes, which means we are already donating over £663,000 to charities up and down the country.

Eligible expenditure

We are most likely to approve funding requests which meet one or more of our four areas of interest:

  •  Connecting the community; reducing social isolation, providing opportunities, and encouraging resilience
  • Providing care and support to vulnerable members of our community
  • Relieving poverty; improving the health and wellbeing of our communities
  • Advancing education and experiences for young people

The National Lottery Community Fund - Peoples Project

The People’s Projects is back, with The National Lottery, ITV, UTV and, for the first time this year, the Sunday Mail. We’re giving community organisations the chance to apply for funding of up to £70,000.

After a national campaign the winners will be decided by public vote. The idea is to give Lottery players and the public a say in how National Lottery money is spent.

We’re looking for projects that meet one of the following:

  • bring people together and build strong relationships in and across communities
  • make communities stronger and more inclusive
  • help people or communities develop the skills and capacity they need to achieve their ambitions
  • involve the people you support in the design, development and delivery of your project
  • support people to create meaningful change in their local community or help it thrive
  • help people and communities connect by engaging with nature
  • build connections across different cultures, different communities, or both.

We’re looking for imaginative ideas from organisations that have already done good work in their local community. We’ll prioritise smaller organisations with annual turnovers of under £500,000.

We’ll award grants of up to £70,000 to 57 winners across the UK. We will offer up to 38 runner-up organisations awards of as much as £10,000.

This is an exciting opportunity, but it will take time and commitment over several months to get your project the votes you need to win. Before deciding to apply, consider if you’re happy running a public campaign that could bring lots of publicity to your project. We’ll provide free support and training to help you do this.

Area: UK-wide

Suitable for: Voluntary and community organisations

Funding size: up to £70,000

Total available: Up to £4.37 million

Application deadline: 12 noon on Friday 7th October 2022, or when we have reached our limit for applications for this fund if that’s sooner.

Keep Wales Tidy - Final free garden packages up for grabs

BBC Presenter and Keep Wales Tidy Ambassador, Will Millard, urges community groups and organisations of all shapes and sizes to apply for a free Local Places for Nature garden pack before it’s too late.

Final free garden packages up for grabs from Local Places for Nature

Environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy is giving away the last 70 free garden packages to communities across the country.

Community groups and organisations are being urged to apply now for a free garden package from Keep Wales Tidy to avoid missing out.

Since ‘Local Places for Nature’ scheme launched in 2020, more than 900 gardens have been created, restored and enhanced across Wales. Now, with only 70 packages left and this year’s application deadline approaching, time is running out for communities to get involved.

BBC presenter and Keep Wales Tidy Ambassador, Will Millard said:

“It’s incredible to see organisations of all shapes and sizes benefitting from Local Places for Nature – from fire stations and hospitals to homeless charities and housing associations. The new gardens aren’t just creating havens for wildlife but are providing a much-needed boost to communities across Wales.

“What are you waiting for? If you know an area that could benefit from being transformed, apply now before it’s too late!”

All orchard packages have been allocated but there are still wildlife and food growing packages available. Each one includes native plants, tools and other materials needed to create a garden. Keep Wales Tidy handle the orders and deliveries and their expert staff even provide help with building and planting.

The initiative is jointly funded by the Welsh Government, part of a wider Welsh Government ‘Local Places for Nature’ programme committed to creating, restoring and enhancing nature ‘on your doorstep’ and The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

To apply for a free garden pack, visit the Keep Wales Tidy website www.keepwalestidy.cymru/nature

The deadline for applications is Monday 21 November 2022.

Keep Wales Tidy Local Places for Nature

Now, with only 70 packages left and this year’s application deadline approaching, time is running out for communities to apply. This is your chance to reverse nature’s decline and provide an important boost to the well-being of your local community at the same time.

We want to make it as easy as possible for people to get involved. So, we’ve designed a choice of packages tailored to different community groups and organisations.

The deadline for applications is Monday 21 November 2022.

ASDA Cost of Living Grant

This grant is designed to support the increased running costs groups will face between September 2022 and February 2023, including rent increases and electricity cost rises.

Who can apply

Groups applying must meet all the following criteria:

  • Group must have a presence in and benefit the local community
  • End beneficiaries must be community groups of people
  • Must be not for profit
  • There is no minimum timescale for how long the group has been in existence

This grant is designed to support local community groups following increases in their rent, utility bill and food costs as a result of the cost of living crisis.

There are TWO options within this grant. Groups must be clear from the outset which option they intend to apply for:

A) Increased rent and utility bill support

B) Increased food costs support

A group may decide to apply for a combination of the two options, that’s absolutely fine. Just ensure they are clear on the application.

Increased rent and utility bill support

Rent your community space?
We understand increased costs mean rent is increasing. We can support your group by helping the bridge the increase in your rent.

Own your community space?
We understand gas and electricity costs have increased, we can support you with these costs to help keep your building open to the public. If you charge groups rent, help pass on similar prices through our help.

Community needs you to open longer?
We know many people will be struggling to afford putting their home heating on. If your space remains open longer to help people, we will support these extra costs.

Increased food costs support
Many communities will be struggling to cover food costs.

This funding option enables groups to support those impacted most through the provision of meals, community cafes, food parcels, delivered meals, soup kitchen etc

How to apply

How much can I apply for and when?

  • Groups can apply for Cost of Living Grant in addition to one other grant or Green Token Giving.
  •  Applications must be submitted to your local Community Champion from 19th September and the application window will remain open until the budget cap has been reached.

Therefore, please aim to submit applications to Community Champions as soon as possible.

  • Funds can be spent from September 2022 to February 2023
