Youth Social Action Fund

BBC Children in Need, in partnership with the #iwill Fund and The Hunter Foundation, have launched a fund to support organisations to embed youth social action across the UK.  This funding will support organisations to bring social action and youth empowerment opportunities to children and young people to help prevent or overcome the effects of the disadvantages they face.  The Youth Social Action Fund will help to build children and young people’s confidence and skills by empowering them to take an active and leading role in developing solutions to issues which affect their lives and their communities.

 Some key points:

  • This funding will support children and young people aged 18 and under
  • We are keen to fund work with those aged 15 and under
  • We can fund unregistered organisation for up to £15,000 over 18 months
  • We can fund registered organisation up to £50,000 over 18 months
  • The deadline for applications is 23/05/2022
  • We will award grants in August 2022 and delivery must be completed by the middle of March 2024
  • We expect all successful organisations to take part in a self-directed development stage for up to 6 months at the beginning of their grant. Up to 10% of the budget can be for development support and will be paid in advance. We will also provide some capacity building support for your organisation and children and young people during this stage

To apply to this fund groups must sign up to a one-hour information session. If you cannot make a session we can send a link to a recorded session. We are only making application forms available to organisations who have attended an information session or have received a recorded session.

For more information and details on accessibility please visit our website here.  If you have any further queries please email the Wales office on cin.wales@bbc.co.uk

We will soon be launching our We Move Youth Social Action Fund which is aimed specifically at Black-led organisations and organisations that work with Black children and young people. You can find out more about the fund here.

I’m getting in touch about the Platinum Champions Volunteer Awards we launched last week to ask whether you can help us to promote the awards to your networks.

Platinum Champions is an official Jubilee project we’re running with our President HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, to recognise UK volunteers across a wide variety of causes. In all,  490 Platinum Champions – in 7 categories - will be awarded and receive a special commemorative pin and a certificate signed by HRH the Duchess of Cornwall.  And 70 of the most outstanding Champions will also get to join official Jubilee celebrations in London on the weekend of June 5th.

The awards are being followed every step of the way by BBC’s The One Show and Morning Live as national broadcast partner.

Attached is a communications toolkit and we would be grateful if could share via social media and through your internal staff and volunteer channels.

If you would like any further information or content, please contact social@royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk.

Further details about the awards can be found on our website Platinum Champion Awards | Nominate a Volunteer | Royal Voluntary Service

Any help you can provide via promoting would be much appreciated!

Invitation to Gypsey Maker 5 Exhibition

The Romani Cultural and Arts Company (RCAC) would like to invite you and a guest to the preview of our Gypsy Maker 5 Exhibition on April 8th 2022 from 6pm to 8pm at the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s gallery Art Central, Town Hall, King Square, Barry, CF63 4RW.

As well as marking the opening of the exhibition the event will also celebrate International Roma Day on the same date.

Gypsy Maker 5 is a new exhibition of artworks by Imogen Bright Moon a traditional Card Loom Weaver, Corrina Eastwood Culture and Identity Artist and Rosamaria Kostic Cisneros a dancer and choreographer.

This installation of specially commissioned artworks is the latest in our ground-breaking Gypsy Maker project, an initiative that supports the development of innovative works by Gypsy, Roma and Traveller artists. The Gypsy Maker 5 project expands the work of the RCAC by continuing to engage Gypsy Roma, Traveller communities with the wider public in ongoing dialogue about the ways in which art continues to inform our lives today.

Each of the artists employs a variety of media within their unique art practices. Imogen Bright Moon combines hand-weaving with storytelling, folklore, and heritage crafts to create her studio textiles. Corrina Eastwood uses her practice to foreground marginalised voices and challenge social disparities through art, activism, and education; and Rosamaria Kostic Cisneros explores her ground-breaking dance and choreography having collaborated with many Flamenco greats and leaders in the Dance field.

Commissioned by the Romani Cultural and Arts Company, this 2022 project is supported by Arts Council of Wales and the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Arts Service and Art Central Gallery.

Interested in knowing more about the UK Shared Prosperity Fund ???

Last month UK Government published its long-awaited Levelling Up White Paper along with some pre-launch guidance about the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

There’s been lots of speculation about the UKSPF and, whilst we still don’t know the full picture, we’ve got a better idea of what it’s going to fund, who’s going to make the decisions and how it’s going to be managed. This will be a major change for Wales and the voluntary sector, with a significant difference between the current European Structural Funds, and the new approach laid out in the white paper and guidance.

WCVA, in partnership with UK Government’s Cities and Local Growth Unit Wales team, will be delivering a briefing session about the UKSPF - what we know, what’s to come and how, as a sector, we can prepare for it.

The session will be held online on Wednesday 30 March, 11.00 – 12.00. Please register on the link below.

Tell NEWID about your relationship with technology

NEWID is a programme of digital skills development and support for the third sector in Wales. Newid is co-ordinated by WCVA, Wales Co-operative Centre and ProMo-Cymru, and developed in consultation with the voluntary sector to ensure maximum impact. Funded by Welsh Government and supported by the Centre for Digital Public Services, this first phase of Newid is a pilot project running until Summer 2022.

The COVID pandemic has transformed everyone’s relationship with ‘digital’, whether that is how you interact with colleagues or deliver services.   With ‘digital’ having a wide-ranging role within the work we undertake, it is vital that third sector organisations in Wales have access to information and support to help make judgements around how digital can complement the range of activities being undertaken.

The third sector in Wales is made up of more than 49,000 diverse organisations, charities, social enterprises and community groups.  We are hoping to capture information from more than 500 organisations across Wales to learn more about your relationship with technology.  This information will enable us at NEWID to develop approaches that fulfil the needs of the third sector.

This is the first time that a digital baseline assessment has been undertaken in Wales.

We are appealing to those that work in the third sector in Wales to undertake two actions:

1.         Fill out the survey (on-behalf of the organisation you work for)

2.         Share the link to the survey to a third sector contact that works for another organisation.

 Complete survey  here
