National Lottery Awards for All Wales

National Lottery funding can help you to make a difference in your community. We offer funding from £300 to £10,000 to support what matters to people and communities.

Application deadline

Ongoing

National Lottery funding can help you to make a difference in your community. We offer funding from £300 to £10,000 to support what matters to people and communities.

Through our National Lottery Awards for All programme, we’re looking to support projects that are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic by:

·        supporting organisations to adapt or diversify to respond to new and future challenges

·        supporting communities adversely affected by COVID-19

·        supporting communities and organisations to become more resilient to help them to respond better to future crises.

Although we are supporting responses to the pandemic, your project does not have to be related to COVID-19 to be funded.

If you are applying for something that is not related to Covid-19, then your project must meet at least one of our usual funding priorities, which are:

·        Bring people together and build strong relationships in and across communities

·        Improve places and spaces that matter to communities

·        Help more people to reach their potential, by supporting them at the earliest stage.

It takes around 12 weeks to get a decision from us

We need this time to assess your application. If we do decide to fund you, we'll then pay you two weeks later.

Heritage Fund Local Places for Nature

Local Places for Nature

A capital grant scheme intended to enable communities in Wales to restore and enhance nature.

Local Places for Nature is a capital grant scheme intended to enable areas of highest deprivation, peri-urban/urban communities, and/or those with least access to nature in Wales to restore and enhance nature 'on your doorstep'. Certain types of project can be funded anywhere in Wales – please see below.

This funding is primarily for:

  • projects located or servicing the needs of communities in the 50% most deprived areas OR
  • community food growing projects anywhere in Wales OR
  • organisations/groups representing a diverse ethnic community from any part of Wales

If the project area falls within the 50% LEAST deprived of areas, you may still be able to apply for funding. Particularly, if your project will increase the involvement of a wider range of people in natural heritage, and/or if those affected by the project have a specific need. Please email us with brief details, including the postcode of the project site, so we can further advise.

We are offering two levels of grant:

1.    £10,000 to £100,000 for capital projects that will acquire, restore and enhance nature in areas of deprivation

2.    £100,000 to £250,000. We are offering a limited number of grants up to £250,000. We are particularly interested if your project is located in or near one of the 50% most deprived communities or if you are engaging with a specific need. Deprivation is measured using the overall deprivation measure in the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation. Please use your postcode to check your eligibility against the overall deprivation measure using the interactive map

If you are seeking a grant between £100,000 and £250,000 please e-mail natur@heritagefund.org.uk before proceeding any further with the process, but please continue to read this grant criteria.

We are particularly looking for projects that can be seen 'from your doorstep'. This means where people live, work, access public services, travel and spend their leisure time.

Transport For Wales - Volunteers Needed for their Station Adopt Scheme

Transport for Wales are seeking to recruit more volunteers to their station adoption scheme.  The scheme was launched in 2004 and they currently have 151 adopted stations across the network.  They currently have a few stations are available for adoption in the Merthyr valley:

In return for their support, volunteers will receive a Transport for Wales travel voucher on two occasions a year that will offer a return journey anywhere on the TFW network.  Volunteers are also invited to attend a regional conference where they can meet other volunteers and find out more about the latest news from the business.

Volunteers ideally need to live within the same community as their station or within a reasonable distance and be 16 years old or older.

Please contact Geraint Morgan, Community Rail Manager South Transport for Wales on 07801 644197 if you're interested.

Recognising Volunteering Champions

Nominations are now open for the Helpforce Champion Awards and we will soon be seeking nominations for this year’s Welsh Charity Awards.

People don’t generally volunteer for the recognition, but nevertheless it is good to publicly acknowledge from time to time the special contributions they make. Telling and hearing volunteer stories is both affirming for the volunteers concerned and an inspiration for the rest of us.

Louis, a student at the University of South Wales walked an incredible 238,000 steps as a Runner in Llandough hospital, delivering essential items from relatives and friends to and from inpatients during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also used his IT skills to help staff to reconfigure 250 Lenovo tablets when new wifi was introduced. at the hospital

Three other nominations from Cardiff and Vale health board were highly commended: Mass Vaccination Centre volunteers were recognised for ‘Partnership and systems working in volunteering’, a hospital Runner team as ‘Outstanding volunteering team of the year’ and a staff member as ‘Outstanding staff champion for volunteers’.

A strategy for tackling food poverty in Merthyr Tydfil.....have your say !

Miller Research have been in the process of developing surveys as part of a study that will help to formulate a strategy for tackling food poverty across Merthyr County Borough.

Our core aim is that the strategy reflects a county-wide, collaborative approach and will help to improve access to affordable, nutritious food for local people

As part of this, we are currently engaging with residents based in Merthyr, to collect baseline information and obtain views on current issues as well as what the strategy for tackling food poverty might look like. Particularly, we are looking to explore your experiences toward the affordability and accessibility of food during the current cost of living crisis (as well as experiences during the Covid-19 pandemic).

Please be assured that all of your responses to the questions asked in this survey will be kept completely anonymous

The survey will take about 10 minutes to complete. There are no right or wrong answers, we are looking to collect open and honest feedback.  There is an option to be entered into a prize draw for a £50 Argos voucher, on completion of this survey. To be entered for this, please provide your email address when asked at the end of the survey. Email addresses will be separated from the answers you've provided, and a random winner will be selected.

Loneliness & Isolation Grant Scheme - Merthyr TYdfil

Connected  Communities: Loneliness and Isolation Fund

Loneliness and social isolation can be experienced by anyone of any age and any background.  Increasingly we understand the impact they can have on our physical and mental well-being, and therefore the importance of the relationships we have with family, friends, colleagues and neighbours in giving us our sense of belonging and well-being.

Whilst we want to support activities which bring people together face-to face in a safe and secure way, funding can also be used to support online activities where this is the most appropriate or only way to build social connections e.g. where access to a venue is difficult or for those not quite ready to meet people face-to-face.

The funding can be used for revenue costs only associated with these types of activities. It cannot be used for capital costs and cannot duplicate any existing funding.

Who can apply?

You can apply if your organisation is a:

  • ·       voluntary or community organisation
  • ·       registered charity
  • ·       constituted group or club
  • ·       delivering a service in Merthyr Tydfil
  • ·       not-for-profit company or Community Interest Company

Terms and conditions of the grant allocation will be as follows:

•         Revenue funding

•         One application per organisation per year

•         Grants allocated on an annual basis

•         Maximum award of up to £2500

Applications will also need to demonstrate how their proposal fits with one or more of the loneliness and social isolation strategy’s four priority areas:

•         increasing opportunities for people to connect

•         a community infrastructure that supports connected communities

•         cohesive and supportive communities

•         building awareness and promoting positive attitudes.

To request your application pack please contact grants@vamt.net

Closing date for applications 15th August 2022 12 noon.
