Cancer Aid Merthyr Tydfil is recruiting for two positions on our Board of Trustees

At Cancer Aid, we believe no one should face cancer alone. We provide support to cancer patients, carers and anyone who has been affected by a cancer diagnosis. We are an independent local charity, at the heart of the Merthyr Tydfil community. We provide practical and emotional support to patients from diagnosis to living with, and beyond cancer. We also provide family bereavement support.  We are looking to appoint two new Trustees to join our Board in a voluntary capacity to help continue our mission to support cancer patients and carers living in the Merthyr Tydfil Borough as we come out of the coronavirus pandemic.

Our Board

We have a collaborative Board of friendly and committed trustees, who, with our principal manager and staff have established a charity that supports cancer patients and families at the time they need it most. As we move out of lockdown and into the post covid times, we are looking for two committed trustees to join our team to support our mission.

The opportunities

We wish to appoint two trustees who can draw on their skills and experience to help the Board guide the charity as it transitions to creating its new strategic goals for the future. We would welcome applications from:

  • Those who are passionate about cancer care and cancer support for patients and families.
  • Those who are committed to improving services within Merthyr Tydfil.

These roles are not remunerated. The expected time commitment is a minimum of 7 board meetings including an AGM, in addition to attending sub-groups or events where required. Preparation is required for reading reports and meeting papers ahead of any scheduled meeting. .

Job Vacancies - an opportunity to join FareShare Cymru

 About Us

FareShare Cymru is an independent charity and part of the national FareShare U.K. network of surplus food redistribution charities.

We fight food poverty by tackling food waste. We source quality surplus food – from food retailers, manufacturers, and suppliers – engaging volunteers to redistribute to local charities and community groups that provide meals to vulnerable people (individuals who are homeless, unemployed, socially isolated, recovering from addictions). Our food is a vital lifeline for children and families, people on low incomes, people who have lost their jobs, the homeless, refugees, domestic abuse survivors, the elderly and keyworkers.

This is an exciting opportunity to be instrumental in setting the next phase of our development. This post is a new role in response to this year’s rapid growth of the charity’s operations and we anticipate exciting new opportunities for further growth in the future.

 How to apply

Please send a copy of your CV and supporting statement to jobs@fareshare.cymru The closing date for applications is 12:00 14th May 2021.

Interviews will be held week commencing 31st May 2020.

Help overcome barriers to employment - Active Inclusion Funding

As it’s the last chance to run one-year employment projects, voluntary organisations are being encouraged to get in touch with WCVA about applying ahead of the new Active Inclusion round.

WCVA’s Active Inclusion Fund is an important way for voluntary organisations to tackle unemployment in the wake of Covid-19. If you think you could offer disadvantaged people in Wales new skills, volunteering opportunities or paid supported employment to overcome barriers to work the fund could be for you.

The deadline to apply for the next round of Active Inclusion funding is 4 June 2021. However, those applying for the first time will need go through an approvals process by the end of April, ahead of applications opening on 3 May 2021.

The round represents an important milestone as it will be the last opportunity to apply for funding for projects that are up to a year long.

JOBS ARE THE ULTIMATE GOAL, BUT NOT THE WHOLE STORY

The Active Inclusion Fund provides grants for projects anywhere in Wales that help disadvantaged people get back into employment. Barriers to employment vary, and the grants are also relevant for those who specialise in supporting traditionally marginalised groups such as people with a learning difficulty or those from a BAME community.

The grants are especially useful for those working with:

       ·        Carers

·        People over 54

·        People with low skills

·        BAME people

·        Jobless households

·        People with work limiting health conditions

·        Young people who are ‘Not in Education, Employment, or Training’ (NEET)

Getting unemployed people set up with meaningful jobs is the end goal, but your project could also be providing a key step on the employment journey, such as:

  • Volunteering roles that provide beneficial experience
  • Skills training that help people’s employment prospects

 GET IN TOUCH BEFORE APPLYING

Got an idea for a project? Get in touch to discuss your idea with a member of WCVA’s Active Inclusion team. The team can help improve your chances of success and guide you through the process at each stage of the journey.

To arrange an informal chat email activeinclusion@wcva.cymru or call 0300 111 0124.

European funding for projects tackling unemployment is available through WCVA until 2022, and though EU funds can be challenging WCVA’s expert team is here to help.
