The Romani Cultural and Arts Company
(RCAC) would like to invite you and a guest to the preview of our Gypsy Maker 5
Exhibition on April 8th 2022 from 6pm to 8pm at the Vale of Glamorgan
Council’s gallery Art Central, Town Hall, King Square, Barry, CF63 4RW.
As well as marking the opening of
the exhibition the event will also celebrate International Roma Day on the same
date.
Gypsy Maker 5 is a new exhibition of
artworks by Imogen Bright Moon a traditional Card Loom
Weaver, Corrina Eastwood Culture and Identity Artist and Rosamaria
Kostic Cisneros a dancer and choreographer.
This installation of specially
commissioned artworks is the latest in our ground-breaking Gypsy Maker project,
an initiative that supports the development of innovative works by Gypsy, Roma
and Traveller artists. The Gypsy Maker 5 project expands the work of the RCAC
by continuing to engage Gypsy Roma, Traveller communities with the wider public
in ongoing dialogue about the ways in which art continues to inform our lives
today.
Each of the artists employs a
variety of media within their unique art practices. Imogen Bright Moon combines
hand-weaving with storytelling, folklore, and heritage crafts to create her
studio textiles. Corrina Eastwood uses her practice to foreground marginalised
voices and challenge social disparities through art, activism, and education;
and Rosamaria Kostic Cisneros explores her ground-breaking dance and
choreography having collaborated with many Flamenco greats and leaders in the
Dance field.
Commissioned by the Romani Cultural
and Arts Company, this 2022 project is supported by Arts Council of Wales and
the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Arts Service and Art Central Gallery.
