Time to say ‘thank you’ – Volunteers’ Week is here - are you ready?

Volunteers’ Week is taking place across the UK from 1-7 June.

Here’s what is happening for Volunteers’ Week in Wales this year and how you can get involved.

Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration that recognises volunteers all across the UK. This year, with the continued importance of volunteers in tackling the big issues in our society – such as the pandemic and the war in Ukraine – WCVA and Volunteers’ Week partners have decided to once again use the week as a time to say ‘thank you’ or ‘diolch’ to volunteers.

WHAT IS HAPPENING IN VOLUNTEERS’ WEEK 2022?

1 June 2022 – Volunteers’ Week launch – A time to say thanks

Join the first day of Volunteers’ Week 2022. These last few years have highlighted the vital role volunteers play across the UK. We want to make sure everyone is aware that this is a week to recognise the impact of volunteers, think about volunteering and plan to support volunteering in the future.

2-5 June 2022 – The Big Jubilee Lunch

This year’s Volunteers’ Week festivities also include The Big Jubilee Lunch. What better way to celebrate the impact volunteers have in their communities than The Big Jubilee Lunch! You can join in online, on your doorstep, in a park or over the fence. This is your chance to celebrate community connections, recognise fellow volunteers and talk to others about your experience volunteering. This weekend in June is the UK’s annual get together for neighbours and communities.

5 June 2022 – Thank You Day

The last couple of years have been testing for all of us. Let’s all get together and say thank you to everyone who has helped us through. Learn more here.

6 June 2022 – Power of Youth Day

On 6 June, Volunteers’ Week is coordinating with the #iwill movement for Power of Youth Day. Power of Youth Day is an annual celebration of the contributions children and young people make to society through volunteering and social action.

7 June 2022 – Volunteers’ Week close – A time to say thanks

Final thanks! Use this day to recap how you’ve showed appreciation for your volunteers this year and don’t forget to invite all to join you for a week of celebration again in 2023!

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

There are many ways to get involved:

If you are a community leader, you can organise a local online event to say thank you to local volunteers.

Schools, colleagues, universities and workplaces can shine a spotlight on students or staff who volunteer and inspire others to get involved.

Volunteer-involving organisations can hold a thank you event for their existing volunteers. (It could even be a taster to show others what volunteer roles are on offer!)

Businesses could highlight the value of volunteering to their employees and customers, sharing stories of what has been done by volunteers to make a difference in their own communities.

Volunteers’ Week is also a chance to highlight the variety of volunteer roles and activities, showing ways in which people can get involved as volunteers in their local communities.

RESOURCES

A wide variety of ideas, materials and support is available from participating organisations to help you along the way:

Volunteers’ Week UK resources

WCVA Comms pack

Month of Community, The Big Lunch and The Big Jubilee Lunch resources

Thank You Day resources

Power of Youth Day resources

Whatever you decide to do, we’d love to hear from you and would love to give as much recognition for volunteers as possible across social media platforms, so please get involved and use the hashtag #VolunteersWeek and #WythnosGwirfoddolwyr.

BEYOND VOLUNTEERS’ WEEK

Please remember to show appreciation towards your volunteers and highlight their achievements all throughout the year. Volunteers’ Week is a great way to celebrate together this June, but we hope it inspires a culture of gratitude and appreciation for all volunteers, always.

Gofod3 is back – book your places now!

Gofod3 is back again this year from the 20-24 June 2022 and with less than a month to go we are excited to tell you what’s on the programme so you can start booking.

Gofod3 is an event organised by WCVA, in collaboration with the voluntary sector. It is the biggest voluntary sector event of its kind in Wales.

Whether you’re a trustee, staff member, volunteer or all three, gofod3 is designed especially for people involved in Welsh voluntary organisations.

With a whole week of events on offer, including an exciting and busy schedule of speakers, masterclasses, panel debates and workshops, we can guarantee there’ll be something for everyone.

Gofod3 was first established in spring 2017 as an annual, one-day event in Cardiff. Forced to cancel the event in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were thrilled to be able to bring back gofod3 back last year, when it was held online for the first time over the course of a week.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM GOFOD3 2022

Our full programme is now live! We have over 70 events lined-up throughout the week ranging from conversations about the climate crisis and talks on crowdfunding, to discussing what the sector can do to ease the cost-of-living crisis.

It’s going to be a week bursting with discussion and ideas! You can join Grow Cardiff to talk about social prescribing or the Eden project to discuss reconnecting communities post-pandemic.

If those aren’t your cup of tea we have a variety of sessions covering funding and fundraising, safeguarding or cyber security and many more such as:

Equality, diversity and inclusion

Digital

Bilingualism

Impact

Volunteering

Running your organisation

Marketing and communications

It’s a phenomenal selection. So don’t waste any time! Go check out the programme and register you FREE place now!

This is your unique space to reflect, learn and plan for the future.

WHY ONLINE?

Feedback from last year’s event showed that people really enjoyed the online format and many actually preferred it. Based on this feedback, and wanting to make the week as accessible as possible, gofod3 remains online this year but with the option of taking part in some face-to-face networking sessions, thanks to our Third Sector Support Wales (TSSW) partners.

And we must thank our sponsors, Darwin Gray, Keegan & Pennykid, Pugh Computers and The Open University, for their support, both financially and for the events they’ve chosen to run.

For the team at WCVA, it is extremely important for us that gofod3 offers every organisation – large or small – the opportunity to showcase their invaluable work and develop skills for the future.

We hope you’re as excited as we are and cannot wait to see you all in June.

To view the full programme and book your places please visit gofod3.cymru.

CALLING ALL VOLUNTARY YOUTH WORK SERVICES IN WALES!

A new and exciting project to Map and Evaluate the Voluntary Youth Work Sector in Wales has been launched!

The KESS project - Mapping and Evaluating the Voluntary Youth Work Sector for Wales is a Masters by Research project conducted by the University of South Wales and funded by the European Social Fund in partnership with CWVYS. The research aims to make the voluntary youth work sector more visible and ensure their contributions are valued by all stakeholders. You may be aware that the voluntary sector is under-researched and valued in comparison to statutory services, who have an audit each year. We hope our research can change this.
To do so, we would value your contribution to our short online survey.

If you are an organisation that provides voluntary youth work services for young people in Wales, please follow the link below to the survey which simply captures the nature of your organisation and the support provided to young people. Survey completion should take no more than 15 minutes. Your time and comments are greatly valued.

To start the survey, please follow the below links:

Please also share the survey link and information among your networks (e.g. by email or social media) – the more responses we receive the better we can represent the experiences of the sector as a whole and the young people they support.
You will find further information on the project at the beginning of the survey, however, should you have any questions or feedback on the research, please feel free to contact the researcher by email: Elizabeth.bacon@southwales.ac.uk

Thank you in advance for your input. With your support we hope we can deliver on bringing the change and representation the sector needs.
