New! Support for Social Enterprises

 Tydfil Training, Voluntary Action Merthyr Tydfil and Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council have recently been successful in gaining  Community Renewal Funding from the UK Government  to support local social enterprises and have thereon commissioned the Wales Cooperative Centre to conduct a number of supporting tasks (including the mapping of all social enterprises in the area and ascertaining their needs).

Tell NEWID about your relationship with technology

 NEWID is a programme of digital skills development and support for the third sector in Wales. Newid is co-ordinated by WCVA, Wales Co-operative Centre and ProMo-Cymru, and developed in consultation with the voluntary sector to ensure maximum impact. Funded by Welsh Government and supported by the Centre for Digital Public Services, this first phase of Newid is a pilot project running until Summer 2022.

 The COVID pandemic has transformed everyone’s relationship with ‘digital’, whether that is how you interact with colleagues or deliver services.   With ‘digital’ having a wide-ranging role within the work we undertake, it is vital that third sector organisations in Wales have access to information and support to help make judgements around how digital can complement the range of activities being undertaken.

 The third sector in Wales is made up of more than 49,000 diverse organisations, charities, social enterprises and community groups.  We are hoping to capture information from more than 500 organisations across Wales to learn more about your relationship with technology.  This information will enable us at NEWID to develop approaches that fulfil the needs of the third sector.

 This is the first time that a digital baseline assessment has been undertaken in Wales.

 We are appealing to those that work in the third sector in Wales to undertake two actions:

1.         Fill out the survey (on-behalf of the organisation you work for)

2.         Share the link to the survey to a third sector contact that works for another organisation.

Volunteering Wales Main Grants Scheme now open

 Volunteering Wales Grants is a scheme funded by the Welsh Government to promote and improve volunteering in Wales.

Volunteering Wales is about ‘…the kind of country we want to be’.

A volunteer is someone who commits time and energy for the benefit of society and the community, and volunteering can take many forms. It is undertaken freely and by choice without concern for financial gain.

Volunteering is one of the national wellbeing indicators tracking Wales progress against the Wellbeing of Future Generations (Wales) Act goals.  To embed volunteering, create high quality volunteering opportunities, and engage young people, Welsh Government have funded three key schemes under Volunteering Wales.

VOLUNTEERING WALES MAIN GRANT SCHEME – NEW ROUND NOW OPEN!

GRANT AIMS

• Increase volunteer engagement and satisfaction by removing barriers to volunteering for people of all ages and from all parts of society.
• Support the creation and development of high quality and positive volunteering opportunities in Wales.
• Promote changes in beneficiary organisations to embed volunteering into their working practices and culture eg obtaining the Investing in Volunteers Award.

Funding is available for not-for-profit organisations proposing projects up to two years, for up to £25,000 per annum.

Gardener Vacancy

National Gardening Schemes Community Garden Awards.

 Funding to support horticultural projects which benefit local communities in England and Wales.

Set up in 2011 in memory of the writer and gardener Elspeth Thompson, the Community Gardens Award offers grants for projects run by amateur garden groups with a community focus across England and Wales.
The project should aim to bring a community together by creating a space people can share, by the acquisition and sharing of gardening knowledge and skills and by inspiring a love of gardening.

Funding could cover expenses such as:

·         Site preparation (including hire of small mechanical tools such as rotavators).

·         Hand tools.

·         Plants.

·         Trees.

·         Shrubs.

·         Containers.

·         Seating.

There is no fixed minimum or maximum award, but grants do not usually exceed £5,000.
