Jewish History Association of South Wales Workshop 24 March

 Thanks to a Coronavirus Recovery Grant for Volunteering, the Jewish History Association of South Wales is running a 10-week-long project is to develop a strategic plan for sustainable volunteering and an effective volunteering infrastructure. We are organising a workshop to share our learning and are inviting all interested organisations and community groups across Wales to join us.

 

The key questions we will be addressing:

- What partnerships are needed to sustain and build our volunteering and drive forward our work and how do we build them?

- How do we develop sustainable volunteering: create a volunteering environment that benefits all volunteers, with the retention of loyal, motivated volunteers as a natural by-product.

- How do we support volunteers, so they enjoy the experience, achieve their volunteering objectives, and improve their well-being?

 

The online workshop will take place on Wednesday, the 24^th of March, from 14:00 to 15:00, on Zoom.

About the Jewish History Association of South Wales (JHASW) and the project.

 

We are a community heritage group working to preserve and share the heritage of Jewish communities in south Wales with the wider public.

 

This project has allowed us to focus on volunteers and explore how we can support them. As a result, in the past five weeks, we have seen an important increase in volunteers’ engagement and team cooperation. 

 

Covid-19 has affected all aspects of our work, but especially the work with physical heritage. The grant has enabled us to develop and test a new method of processing fragile materials. We are working in partnership with Glamorgan Archives and People’s Collection Wales, who are providing online training for the volunteers.

Funding News from Lloyds Bank Foundation

 

We are delighted to announce that funding for 2021 is now open and will stay open for the rest of the year. Small and local charities with a yearly income of £25,000 to £1 million who are helping people experiencing complex social issues can now apply for a two-year unrestricted grant of £50,000. Alongside unrestricted funding, successful charities will be supported by one of the Foundation’s regional managers, who will work with them to access a wide range of organisational development support to help meet identified needs. To ensure this funding is distributed equitably, at least 25% of the £9.5 million awarded in grants this year will be ringfenced for Black, Asian and minority ethnic led charities. In the coming months, we will also be launching our Racial Equity funding stream for charities that are led by and for members of minoritised communities. Thinking about Lottery Funding -

 The National Lottery Community Fund – Rhondda Cynon Taf & Merthyr Tydfil Funding Event

We’re hosting an online session on 10^th March aimed at community groups and charities in Rhondda Cynon Taf & Merthyr Tydfil, to tell you more about our funding, and to give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help and want to talk to you about your ideas to support your community.

 We continue to make sure our National Lottery funds support people and communities in Wales through COVID-19. Our funds remain open and mostly unchanged but we're expanding our funding and support to help communities to adapt, recover and thrive.

Projects don’t have to be related to COVID-19, but when they are, we’re looking to support projects that are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic by:

• supporting organisations to adapt or diversify to respond to new and future challenges;
• supporting communities adversely affected by COVID-19;
• supporting communities and organisations to become more resilient, to help them to respond better to future crises.

New! Event from Lloyds Bank Foundation

 We are running an event on the 2^nd March (2-3:30pm), which is a continuation of the learning sessions we began last year where we invited a group of people from the six communities we are working with to share their learning during the COVID response.  Merthyr Tydfil is one of these communities.

 This session is a bit different as we have invited speakers joining us, Jonathan Bland from E3M and Julian Blake from Stone King.  The session looks at the ‘art of the possible’ in public services and how public authorities and the VCSE sector can tackle challenges and improve outcomes for their communities through effective partnerships.
