A report published by Public Health Wales highlights how the combined influences of Brexit, Coronavirus and climate change will potentially impact all of us through the food that we are able to buy.

This webinar will provide a background to the current Welsh and UK legislative and policy context in relation to food security and the impact that food security has on the health and wellbeing of the population. The webinar will also share how local food partnerships are mobilising community food leaders and advocating for better access to affordable, healthy and sustainable food.

Free guide launched to help charities recruit young trustees

Our Bright Future, a partnership led by the Wildlife Trusts, has published a free guide to help charities recruit young trustees to their boards.

Its Young Trustees Advice Pack  contains a range of resources, including case studies and templates, to guide charities that wish to recruit and induct young people as trustees.

It is estimated that just 0.5% of charity trustees are aged between 18 and 24. Under trust law, appointed trustees must be over the age of 18.

The guide states that many organisations are ‘keen to bring about diversity of their board, particularly through the lens of younger people’.

It says: ‘Boards whose trustees have different backgrounds and experience are more likely to encourage debate and make better decisions.’

The guide identifies six steps to make it easier for charities to get young trustees onto their boards.

1. Identify skills and experience gaps and agree what you’re looking for.
2. Create an inclusive role description and application form.
3. Arrange an interview process that is accessible.
4. Organise a welcoming induction process.
5. Support the new trustees before, during and after board meetings.
6. Ensure a rewarding experience during tenancy and capture learning at end of term process.

The National Lottery Community Fund has made £2 million available to help organisations and the communities they serve to address the impact of the Cost-of-living Crisis in Wales. you can read more about this on our blog here

 We’re here for you as communities recover, rebuild, and grow from the COVID-19 pandemic. You can apply for funding to deliver a new or existing activity or to support your organisation to change and adapt to new and future challenges, including the current cost of living crisis.

Through People and Places: Medium grants, we will be able to:

• Support people, communities and organisations that are facing increased demands and challenges as a direct result of the cost-of-living crisis.
• Support people, communities and organisations with the direct and indirect impact of the cost-of-living crisis.
• Support organisations experiencing current cash flow problems resulting from losses or short-term liquidity challenges as a direct result of the cost-of-living crisis.

This session is for anyone looking to use Infoengine (the online directory of voluntary and community services across Wales). If you are looking to register your organisation, this session will talk you through the process and offer useful tips to make your registration stand out.

The outcomes of the session will be that participants will:

• Be able to register your organisation and services
• Learn some useful tips for making your registration stand out
• Understand how to edit your information
• Be able to add multiple services and organisations

Nature Networks Fund (round two)

 

This fund aims to strengthen the resilience of Wales’ network of protected land and marine sites, supporting nature’s recovery while actively encouraging community engagement

Is this the right programme for you?

• ​Are you an individual or organisation working with natural heritage in Wales?
• Do you need funding for a nature-based project which is ready to start?
• Does your project focus on improving wildlife and biodiversity in Wales?
• Do you require a grant between £30,000 and £1million?

If you answered yes to these questions, then the Nature Networks Fund (round two) is for you.

Expression of interest for larger grants deadline: noon 20/09/22.

Funding deadline for smaller grants: noon 19/10/22.

Funding deadline for larger grants: 7/12/22.

With this fund, you can apply for £30k to £250k, or £250k to £1m. It’s open to individuals or organisations working with natural heritage in Wales.
